Bringing together more than 40 contemporary artists, BAM Biennial 2012 explores one of the most thriving media today: fiber. Mark Dilks and Alex Nguyen (both MFA '13) present their collaborative work Future Sentimentality in the exhibition Dirge at Fjord, Philadelphia.

The artists take on the infeasible task of integrating and distinguishing bodies within the various modes of representation - drawing attention to the complexity of distance and intimacy in our current perception of media structures. The installation functions as a visual and spatial aggregate of antihesis, wherein each work creates a spectacle of stasis, malaise, revery, and remembrance.

Laine Godsey (MFA '13), Scotty Menesini (MFA '14), and Scout Segotta (MFA '13) Conditional Reflex Exhibition

Laine Godsey (MFA '13), Scotty Menesini (MFA '14), and Scout Segotta (MFA '13) will present new work in their group exhibition Conditional Reflex

The exhibition takes its name from the psychological manipulations and character modifications governed by stimuli. The thin end of the wedge. A full apparatus of totalitarianism. When one cannot choose one ceases to be. In the pursuit of knowing oneself we have a conditioned response that subconsciously anticipates the occurrence of an aversive stimulus. Laws and conditions appropriate to a mechanical creation.

The show will take place in the Physical Lab of the Morgan Building located on the UPenn campus.  Conditional Reflex opens 11.30.12 at 5:30 p.m.

Physical Lab
Morgan Building
205 S. 34th St.

Thomas Isaac (MFA '06) Building Collaborative Domicile Near Navajo National Monument, Navajo, AZ

Looking for a way to pay homage to his Navajo roots, Thomas Isaac, (MFA '06), in collaboration with Brooklyn-based design collaborative, XLXS, has decided to build a shelter that responds to the traditional Navajo architecture of the Hogan.

He intends to make a domicile for local artists to share and collaborate and visitors to appreciate. Having grown up on the Navajo Nation, Isaac believes that this type of unique dwelling for the community is exactly what is needed to conserve and celebrate the local artists and cultural beauty the people have to offer.

Isaac has acquired a one-acre piece of land located just 10 minutes from the Navajo National Monument that attracts many tourists.  He would like the shelter to be an open gathering place for visitors as well as locals.

Completion of this all-volunteer project is dependent on funding.  For more information or to donate please visit shelter or www.isaaccaasi.com.
