Kurt Freyer (MFA '09), Elizabeth Hoy (MFA '09) and Emilie Selden (MFA '09) have a show titled, The Pinch, which opens Friday October 14th, at the Fowler Arts Collective.  Freyer, Hoy and Selden will each be contributing new works that grapple with the consequnces of making art in a time of economic harsdship.

Kelsey Halliday Johnson (MFA '12) to Present at the Cumulus Denver Conference: From Understanding to Design and Back Again

Kelsey Halliday Johnson (MFA '12) will present her paper "Annals of the Present World: Contemporary Art as a Local and Global Document" at the Cumulus Denver Conference: From Understanding to Design and Back Again. Cumulus is the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art and Design founded by The University of Art and Design in Helsinki and the Royal College of Art in London in 1990. Their biannual conference is being held in Denver from 9/29-10/2 with a focus on sustainability in art and design. Johnson's paper examines different approaches of contemporary artist-activists and their methodologies as they deal with topics of sustainability and globalization from both a local and global perspective.

Kathy Rose, Previously a Visiting Artist at Penn Design, Exhibiting at the Performance Garage


Kathy Rose will be participating in the 10th Annual Motion Pictures Festival, put on by Philadelphia Dance Projects.  The event will feature experimental film and video, innovative shorts, documentaries and animations.  
Rose's contribution will be a Special Video Installation, titled “Vortex,”  which will be presented during intermission each night.  "Vortex" is intended as a dimensionally magical illusion, in which mesmerizing miniature world of the interior,  of thought, and meditation, integrating video with veils on a small “canvas” on which figures flow and drip in a universe of their own.

call it is an exhibition of the current second year MFA class.  It is both a reflection of the work that the thirteen students have produced over the last year, as well as a preview of what may come, as all thirteen proceed down their diverse and distinct paths towards thesis in May.

Jenny Perlin (Faculty) presents her film titled Leads, from her Perlin Papers series at Galerie M + R Fricke, Berlin

In her third solo exhibition, Jenny Perlin will be presenting her film Leads: one installment from a series eight films, which the Artist has titled the Perlin Papers. The film will be presented with drawings from the film as well as with other related works on paper.

UPenn Alumni Stephen Grebinski (MFA '11), Pernot Hudson (MFA '06) and Brad LaMere (MFA '11), along with Second Year MFA Candidates Yoorim Park (MFA '12) and Meredith Sellers (MFA '12) and staff member Peter Alele were recently accepted into the 215/610 Juried Drawing Exhibition for Regional Emerging Artists, to be held at the Gallery at Delaware County Community College.  The show was juried by Kate Kraczon, Curatorial Assistant at the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania.  Each of the artists selected by Kraczon will have three pieces on display.  Meredith Sellers (MFA '12) was granted the Best of Show Award for her body of work.
